Post tension floating staircase in Portland stone.

In central London this unique staircase in Portland limestone from Albion stone was  an adventure. With no supporting wall, the whole object had to be done using a post tension system. The carved soffite of the stone staircase express the cables' location.

It took the team of 2 men a week to construct. The balcony is done in massive load-bearing stone and is cantilevered from the house.

The glass balustrade is a nice addition to the project and it is hard to image the original scheme was all in stone !

The natural stone treads are 120 kg and were fitted using our own gantry.

Without the help of Webb and Yates' engineer we would not have been able to build such a challenging load-bearing stone structure.
